March 2022

This was my first time shooting film, honestly my first time doing photography at all. I was also learning screenprinting through Virgil Abloh’s Free Game website at the same time, just figuring things out as I went.

I had no idea what I was doing. I was just obsessed with Stanley Kubrick’s framing and Rei Kawakubo’s early Comme des Garçons work. That’s what I was thinking about while stumbling through loading film and setting up shots.

The whole thing was messy and impulsive in that way first projects are. But it set something in motion: this idea of approaching work without already knowing how to do it, led by whatever I’m obsessed with rather than what I can already execute. That’s still how I work now. Everything since has built on that.
